In-store returns urged to 'boost sales opportunity'
Business development managers in retail sales jobs have been urged to provide customers with the option of returning goods purchased online in-store.
According to research by Ipsos Mori, 81 per cent of consumers claim that they would replace goods with another item if they were allowed to return them in-store.
The research suggested that returning goods in-store provides "an extra opportunity to sell" for those in sales jobs.
The report authors said : "Nine out of ten customers think it is important to be able to return merchandise to a store even if it was purchased online or over the phone, yet only half find it easy to do so."
Meanwhile computer games developer Valve Software has claimed that its online distribution platform has encouraged more people into stores, rather than the other way around.
Valve's vice president of business development, Jason Holtman, told MCVUK: "Having a connected platform on the PC is helping sales both online and in retail."
