Could sat nav errors be a thing of the past?

In news that may be of interest to people with sales jobs whose work requires them to drive, it has been revealed that car manufacturers are working towards eradicating satellite navigation (sat nav) errors and producing vehicles which can drive themselves.

According to a white paper produced by BMW the Future Laboratory, firms such as BMW and General Motors are aiming to create cars capable of operating with no human involvement.

It suggests that such vehicles may be available in less than 30 years, while cars controlled by so-called "driverbots" may be on the market by 2018, the Birmingham Mail reports.

The machines will utilise a number of technologies, including sensors that keep cars at a safe distance from other road users and objects.

In related news, researchers at the University of Bath recently provided an explanation as to why sat nav systems sometimes send motorists, including unlucky sales executives, in the wrong direction.

According to the scientists, Aurora Borealis - more commonly known as the Northern Lights - can interfere with GPS signals, the Telegraph reported.
