Most business development training 'isn't that good'
Government-accredited learning for positions such as business development jobs do not examine "people's internal skills", a leading consultancy claims.
Paul Durrant, managing director of Rail Professional Development, says a lot of training "isn't that good" and dismisses Management NVQs.
Criticising the way current initiatives are run, he claims people are often just "ticking the boxes" and do not develop the skills the course is supposed to teach.
Mr Durrant says: "The best client type of skills which are learnt in the workplace is through discussion, debate and critical analysis."
Claiming the majority of companies lack the basic management skills they require, Mr Durrant suggests many employees in positions such as business development jobs are being taught badly and failing to develop the client skills they need.
He describes people as "mentally running for a bus" and seek to gain the qualification without the learning it should require.
According to the Deloitte Entrepreneurship UK report, 31 per cent of companies felt business growth was being obstructed by a lack of suitable employees.
