Employers may soon introduce more flexible hours

Workplaces for jobs such as FMCG sales may soon introduce more flexible hours, a psychotherapist suggests.

Derek Draper, who contributes to Psychologies Magazine, suggests while they have traditionally been male dominated for centuries this does not necessarily mean the practices which have become standard are the best.

He suggests women entering the workplace will be less likely to accept the long-hours culture which male employees might resign themselves to.

Mr Draper claims this will lead to a questioning of this behaviour, which could follow by change.

Editor of Psychologies Magazine Maureen Rice claims employees such as FMCG sales staff might have obligations outside of their careers, such as caring for relatives or children, which could make a seven in the morning to eight at night working day impractical.

She suggests expectations for employees to work these hours are diminishing and this will increase in the future.

"Don't underestimate the power of women to change the world," she warns.

In a survey published in the magazine, 65 per cent of females wanted a job which fits their life.
