Volunteer work can 'refresh' people's CVs

Those out of work but looking for pharmaceutical sales jobs should spend some time in the voluntary sector in order to improve their prospects, an expert advises.

Managing director of Adecco Retail Steven Kirkpatrick recommends the third sector for those looking to "refresh" their resume.

He suggests those intending to do volunteering spend time devising a plan in order to maximise the career advantages it can provide.

By setting specific goals, he claims each opportunity can be used to its full advantage and present a "brilliant" portfolio of experiences and skills for future job applications.

Mr Kirkpatrick says: "It shows an employer that you are ready and willing to get back on the career ladder and demonstrates that you have the skills and dedication needed to succeed."

He claims refreshing a curriculum vitae is an effective way of improving the chances of being selected as part of the pharmaceutical sales recruitment process.

Research from the Office for National Statistics finds the employment rate is 0.2 per cent higher than at this time last year.
