Jobseekers 'in unchartered territory'

The current recruitment market requires jobseekers to use new techniques in order to find employment, it has been claimed.

According to David Twiddle, chief executive of careers advisory service Renovo Careers, the current climate is the most challenging market those looking for sales jobs have seen in a generation.

"The techniques used to find a job under these conditions are considerably different to those in more normal times," he added.

Mr Twiddle went on to say that the majority of career advice widely available is dated and not applicable to today's economic climate.

The company stated that jobseekers should focus on compiling a CV that will stand out in a competitive marketplace, preparing for interviews thoroughly, working with recruitment agencies and making use of online job search tools.

Earlier this week, office supplier Herman Miller claimed that graduate jobseekers are increasingly focusing on the environmental policies of firms when they look for a job.

Mark Catchlove, director of the specifier and design group at the company, commented that the government should do more to reduce the environmental impact of UK offices.
