CVs 'should focus on one position'

By Nikki Barrister

Job candidates should ensure their CVs focus on one particular position, it has been suggested.

Patricia Justice, founder and principal of Justice Human Resources Consulting, said employers do not want to sift through all the things that a jobseeker can do or their full employment history.

She added that they generally want to know exactly what a candidate can do for them and that they do it better that anyone else.

Ms Justice added: "The modern resume no longer exists as a list of job descriptions and previous employers. Nowadays an effective resume is a platform to showcase specific and quantifiable results."

Last week, Tony Restell, founding director of careers website Top-Consultant.com, asserted that the primary purpose of a CV is to secure an interview rather than land a job.

He went on to say that whether a candidate gets to the interview stage depends on how much their CV excites the would-be employer.
