Graduates 'split over job search strategies'

The difficult economic climate is splitting graduate jobseekers into two camps, it has been revealed.

According to Glasgow University's Careers Service, a division is developing between students who try to secure a job as early as possible and those who are unsure of what career path to take and so delay making a decision.

Linda Murdoch, who is deputy director of the university's careers service and represents the Association of Graduate Careers Advisory Services, told the BBC: "Those who knew what they wanted to do and went for it were already fixed up by January; and those that didn't know what they wanted to do decided to concentrate on exams and put off finding work."

She added that people have got to be pro-active during a recession as it can act as an incentive to hide from the job market.

Last week, recruitment website Monster.co.uk commented that those who have been turned down for sales jobs should remain positive and use their experience to bounce back with a second application.
