Language skills 'boost job search'

Jobseekers with language skills are in demand as companies look to extend their business into overseas markets, it has been revealed.

According to recruitment consultancy Euro London Appointments, Dutch, German, Japanese and Russian remain popular languages within finance and demand for Arabic, Gujerati, Polish and Czech is also increasing, it may interest those considering sales jobs to learn.

Group representative Steve Shacklock commented: "Organisations in the UK are realising the importance of maximising on relationships with their customers overseas."

He went on to say that it is reassuring to find that despite the economic climate there is still demand for skilled and experienced candidates.

Earlier this week, the Glasgow University's Careers Service claimed the recession is splitting graduate jobseekers into two camps, with some trying to secure a job as early as possible, while others remain unsure of what career path to take and so delay making a decision.

Linda Murdoch, who is deputy director of the university's careers service, commented that people have got to be pro-active during a recession as it can act as an incentive to hide from the job market.
