Masculine women 'earn more in their lifetime'

Women in sales jobs who embrace a more masculine approach in the workplace are likely to earn £40,000 more than their less aggressive female counterparts, according to new research released this week.

A study entitled Does It Pay To Be Nice? by the researcher Guido Heineck found that so-called 'alpha females' earned four per cent more during the course of their working life compared to their more passive and sometimes neurotic colleagues.

Women in sales jobs may be interested by the news which said that dominant females are likely to succeed.

Mr Heineck said: "Traditionally women are more passive and likable at work. This shows that to be successful in the workplace, women have to adapt to more alpha male-like behaviour."

The study also looked at male behaviour in the workplace and found that personality traits do not influence their earning potential.

In other news, being able to speak a second language could give applicants for sales jobs an edge, according to Teresa Tinsley, director of communications at the National Centre for Languages.
