Sales jobs bolstered in food retail sector
Parts of the consumer goods industry are defying the recession and performing well, which could be good news for sales recruitment.
Richard Dodd, head of media at the British Retail Consortium (BRC), said that the food industry is responding so strongly because people still need to eat, regardless of the economic climate.
Larger items such as carpets and furniture are not as successful, with many non-food retailers not doing as well, which could interest those looking for sales jobs.
He added that these bigger purchases put pressure on people's finances which means consumers are putting off investing in them in the current climate.
The senior media figure said: "Food retailing has proved more resilient than non-food retailing because, of course, in the end people have got to eat."
