Retail sales jobs bolstered after shop re-opening

Retail sales jobs have been given a boost by the news that a former Woolworths store is set to re-open after a £1 million re-fit from its new owners, according to one newspaper.

The Derby Telegraph reported that TJ Hughes has invested the money into the Woolworths site and created around 120 new retail sales jobs in the process.

Mayor of Derby Sean Marshall officially opened the store and said: "I think it is fantastic that an organisation like TJ Hughes has picked Derby as their next store. It has meant 120 new staff have been taken on and it is great for the economy."

Cheryl Daniels, 54, who lost her job in December when Woolworths collapsed and has regained employment at TJ Hughes, told the newspaper that it is "really good to be back".

Retail sales jobs have been bolstered recently as a string of budget stores have invested in former Woolworth sites, including chains such as the 99p Store and Poundland.
