Thousands join hunt for retail sales jobs

Nearly 2,000 people have applied for retail sales jobs in Glasgow's refurbished St Enoch shopping centre.

The sales jobs rush comes as the £100 million complex prepares to open its doors, with 700 vacancies up for grabs.

Interviews are currently underway for stores such as BHS, Game, Boots and Debenhams, who are all recruiting in time for the Christmas period.

Susan Nicol, St Enoch's general manager, said that they had been overwhelmed by the response to job adverts since the refurbishment.

She added: "As the redevelopment programme comes to an end, the new St Enoch will provide a massive boost for Glasgow retail and help us to continue our support of the local community."

Damien Yeates, chief executive of Skills Development Scotland, said that the creation of the retail sales jobs would help to bolster Glasgow's economy.

Recently, business services firm Capita revealed plans to bring in about 200 jobs to a call centre site in Stirling.

The finance sales jobs would be created at Craigforth, as part of insurance firm AXA's existing contract.
