Leeds council backing £80m business park

Leeds City Council has given its approval to the first phase of a 70 acre, £80 million business park which could create up to 2,000 sales jobs.

CalEast Global Logistics and its partner Barwood Developments bought the site, near junction 47 of the M1 at Garforth, from Prudential in March 2008.

Alan Rudge, chairman of Barwood Developments, Northampton, said that the park is now ready to take on business and help to provide a tremendous opportunity for expansion, relocation and new sales jobs in Yorkshire.

He added: "We are now able to respond rapidly, positively and flexibly to market demands and create quality freehold and leasehold bespoke solutions to suit the needs of occupiers."

Mike Dove, speaking on behalf of property consultant Dove Haigh Phillip, said that this development will lead to crucial inward investment and sales jobs opportunities for the county.

The building phase, which will start later this year, will see a single 200,000 sq ft building constructed on a 12 acre site, along with nine buildings of modern office accommodation over another ten acres.
