Jobs and careers to be a top topic over Christmas dinner

Sales recruitment and careers will be a hot topic while people are eating their Christmas dinner this year, according to new research.

The Careers Advice Service said that nearly one in four will be talking about their prospects for the new year while sitting down for their festive lunch.

It follows discussions about people's resolutions (22 per cent) for 2010 and how dry or juicy the turkey is (31 per cent).

The survey of over 3,000 people shows that 77 per cent of people say that they feel better when they have talked to someone about their sales recruitment problems. However, nearly one-third said that they rarely talk about things that distress them.

Jenny Kneafsey, spokesperson for the group, said: "It can help to talk to an independent person to get a fresh perspective on your career and the Careers Advice Service advisers are available seven days a week to do just that."

Jerome Young, founder and president of AttractJobsNow.com, said that the key to starting a fresh year with a new job is to personally communicate with recruiters and focus on their companies' needs.
