John Murray given sales challenge at Spar

Spar UK has given its senior store developer, John Murray, the task of improving sales after it appointed him as development controller for the area.

Mr Murray will now be charged with developing several sales initiatives for the supermarket, with a focus on the distribution of Spar brand goods to stores across the UK.

Spar UK retail director Richard Bennett, who Mr Murray will report to, said: "John's experience in the sector has shown that he is ideally placed to take on the range of challenges the role will bring."

People considering retail sales jobs could be interested in how the new appointment works out, as Spar is facing competition from bigger supermarket chains, such as Morrisons, Asda and Tesco.

Another senior manager trying to do well in a new environment is Marc Bolland, who recently changed roles from chief executive at Morrisons to the same position at retail rivals Marks and Spencers.
