Internet has changed world of retail sales
The internet has become a main stay of British retail culture, according to an expert, who said that the Budget announcements could give sales a temporary lift in the coming months.
Richard Dodd, head of media and campaigns at the British Retail Consortium (BRC), said that many customers have been attracted online because of exclusive deals and promotions.
He added that the VAT increase will encourage some firms using sales recruitment to bring any planned online deals forward to this year.
"Customers have been taking advantage of many online deals and promotions. It has certainly been helped by the sale of televisions in the run-up to the World Cup, but also sales of clothing and footwear because of the good weather improved online," he stated.
The latest results from the IMRG Capgemini e-Retail Sales Index show that total sales online increased by 22 per cent in May compared to last year in the highest growth since June 2008.
