New iPhone gives sales staff a handful

The demand for the new iPhone has left some sales staff rushed off their feet, according to reports, which showed that three days after its launch it had sold more than 1.7 million units.

Apple chief executive Steve Jobs said the launch was the most successful in the company's history with the product only being available in four countries but still drawing impressive sales.

Nowt News reported: "Even with reinforcements, production and sales staff barely could keep pace with demand. Apple had sold out of iPhone 4 models in white before the end of pre-sales."

People looking for retail sales jobs could be impressed by the figures, which follow the attention that Apple received after the launch of its iPad product that bridges the gap between smartphones and netbooks.

Celebrities like Stephen Fry were attracted to the launch of the iPad at Apple's flagship West End store in London, which promoted a product that has sold more than a million units since its US launch eight weeks ago.
