UK retail sales 'increase 1.2%'

The number of opportunities in fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) sales jobs could increase, as the sector has experienced growth during the last month.

Figures published by the British Retail Consortium (BRC) and KPMG have shown that these have expanded by 1.2 per cent on a like-for-like basis.

On a total basis, sales actually increased by 3.4 per cent, which contrasts with the rise experienced in June 2009 of 3.2 per cent.

The best-performing sectors included food, TV, football and outdoor DIY, while homeware, clothing and footwear sales fell during this period.

Stephen Robertson, director general of the BRC, said: "This is decent sales growth, mainly explained by good weather and earlier summer clearances. The performance is better when you remember the comparison is with a similarly strong performance in a sunny June a year ago."

Those considering applying for FMCG sales jobs could take the advice of Talent Transitions director Chris Morrall, who claimed that honed applications can be a great help for job searches.
